Shovel ready

Taught by Lecturer Rapscallion | Edit Tagged as beta, pilot, quick ramp up, short term thinking, shovel ready, skunkworks, | 0 Comments »

A project capable of wasting money now rather than potentially wasting larger amounts in the future.

As in...
Don't you think we should bring the consultants in instead as a stop gap? I'm sure there are some shovel ready opportunities that can help us to realize incremental improvements aligned with our go to market strategy while we wait for our portfolio capabilities to evolve.

So

Taught by TA Captain Bigballs | Edit Tagged as big thinking, big thoughts, so, thinking out loud, | 1 Comments »

A word used to begin a sentence, allowing the speaker another 2-3 seconds of thought before they begin the actual answer to a question or explanation of an idea

As in...
Dave: What is the point of having a vision statement if our CEO is legally blind?

Martha: So, the way I understand it is that a vision statement is actually a longterm target for either goals or growth, so I think we're taking it a little too literally. Maybe day 2 of orientation will clear that up.

Ideate

Taught by TA Esteban Maneshevitz | Edit Tagged as hard thinking, ideate, thinking, | 1 Comments »

To think. Really, really, extremely, hard.

As in...
Jan, I went ahead and scheduled you to be a part of our workshop Thursday afternoon. We're going to be meeting to ideate for the upcoming viral campaign for Trojan condoms. It'll be very PG, so don't worry about bringing HR with you this time.

Blue sky thinking

Taught by TA Esteban Maneshevitz | Edit Tagged as abstract, big thinking, blue sky thinking, conceptual, high level, | 0 Comments »

Yet another way for big thinkers to explain the insanely high level at which they conceive thoughts

As in...
Team, after a bit of blue sky thinking, I've come to the realization that in order to gain customers for our products we're going to need to advertise to them. Now that I've determined this I will be working to provide you all with the tools you'll need to hit the ground running and fast track the program.

High level

Taught by Lecturer Chuck E. Cheese | Edit Tagged as approach, high level, low level, strategy, thinking, | 0 Comments »

An approach to a strategy discussion that has nothing to do with details, usually taken by someone who has no idea how things actually get done

As in...
Why does high level thinking have to presuppose that there is an unfortunate class of lower level thinkers?

Bleeding edge

Taught by TA Captain Bigballs | Edit Tagged as advancement, bleeding edge, buzz, cutting edge, expensive, technology, thinking, | 0 Comments »

Technology that is so far advanced that it has surpassed cutting edge technology. It's typically very expensive, loosely adopted, and considered to be the result of the most innovative thinking in a particular industry

As in...
Google announced today what many consider to be another example of their typical bleeding edge thinking: a search engine that can index a particular population's inner dialogue. It's not yet known what the implications are but early reports have claimed that the national divorce rate has already increased 11.4% since it's release at 9am this morning.

Thinking again. As in more than once. About the same thing, or topic, or idea. Yes. We are good at ideas. Thank you.

As in...
I found this gem in a recent marketing email newsletter I read:

"OVER THE LAST YEAR, TALKS about branded entertainment have picked up serious momentum, and the deal cycle -- from concept to execution -- has become hyper-accelerated. This embracing of entertainment as a marketing platform as opposed to a marketing tool shows a phenomenal trend in rethinking about reaching consumers online." - by Chris Young, Making Friends And Influencing Influencers - Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???!!! Why do marketers say things like this? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???!!! Is there a real point in there, and is it even a grammatically correct sentence and thought structure?

Who feels dumber for reading that, and or like you are being sold something, but don't know quite what... yet?
