From the get-go

Taught by AK | Edit Tagged as action, beginning, from the get-go, start, | 0 Comments »

Means "from the start", or "from the beginning". A horrible term from darkest corporate America, but often heard in Europe also, that implies we are all waiting for the customer to fire an imaginary starting pistol before we leap out of bed and into action. However in spite of its bright "carpe diem" positivism, it often conceals a culture where excuses, stalling and rampant non-delivery are not only the norm, but positively encouraged. As a result it is only ever used in the future tense by sales and marketing people, about projects that they themselves will not be delivering.

As in...
"From the get-go, our guys will be doing 110% for you..." (110% of nothing is still nothing) or "You'll see an exponential improvement in performance from the get-go..." (but that's because we've hacked your reporting system)

to screw up on an important task

As in...
Steve, I've had it. I gave you the simple task of creating the list of deliverables for the meeting and you still manage to drop the ball. How are we going to get buy-in from the c-level if we can't even manage to draft a proper action item list?

An extremely important, urgent task requiring immediate action — from someone else

As in...
Jane, can you go ahead and take that last point down as an action item to follow-up on after this workshop has ended? We're going to need to get right on that as it is one of many critical next steps to getting this thing off the ground.
