Someone that holds some level of responsibility for the success or failure of a project. Usually what is at stake is their job.

As in...
Steve, I'm unclear as to who the main stakeholder is on the Schnoogan pitch. I was under the impression that is was Watkins, but now I'm thinking it might be Jacoby. Please let me know by EOD. I need to let the hooker know which address to get dropped off at tonight.
