Learnings

Taught by TA Ralph Waldo Dick | Edit | Permalink | Tagged as fake words, insights, knowledge, learning, learnings, lessons, made up words, marketing speak, marketing words, | 5 Comments »

A term created by marketers/researchers/morons to describe the collective insights gained from a particular campaign or experiment. It's not recognized as a real word but seems to be making some serious rounds throughout the business world.

As in...
James: So in conclusion, after 90 days we have managed to acquire enough learnings to drive the cost to land one customer down almost 34%, sir.

Richard (Dick): Amazing work, Jimbo. How else can we leverage said learnings to create a value-add for the R&D group in El Paso?

In action... http://www.chrisbrogan.com/how-to-start-speaking-at-events/

Other takes: learnings learnings learnings

Actually, this definition sucks. Let me add my own. You can also share "learnings" with a friend or share it on Twitter.

The other definition seemed to reference some other definition which I couldn't find so I decided to create a new version. I'm sick of seeing and hearing this word in more than half of our corporate communications, pitches, summaries and discussions. It's no wonder that it's also the go to word for people that consistently use 99% of the rest of the words on this site. It's ok if you didn't do well in 8th grade English class. You work in corporate America now where you can just make up new words to describe the other words you never bothered to learn. The best part? Everyone understands what you're trying to say!

"It's not recognized as a real world..." - I'm VERY glad that words that are NOT real words are NOT becoming planetary worlds... that was SUPER scary for about 1.524 seconds when I first read that definition.

I mean... only like 4 people and God can make a world! Sheesh!

LOVE - "go to word"... that's Brilliant...

...also like this concept: "make up new words to describe the other words you never bothered to learn." - I think this is GREAT advice... I'm going to start doing this. starting with........ conglamoration... wow... that's kinda fun!

What the hell are you two bitching about? Every word is made up at some point, so why can't people keep making up words? Where the hell do you think words came from? This site is retarded.

This word has made the ultimate comeback. It will be around forever at this point. You all need to shut the fuck up and go back to your Heinekens.

Is learning (noun) not really a word? I believe that Mirriam-Webster begs to differ: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/learnings. Also look at the Date on the word "before 12th century". "Marketers/researchers/morons" really get around, huh?
