Backtrack is what you do when you have tried to touch base unsuccessfully or want to repeat what was said earlier. May be used to trump the "Going forward" card.
Likewise can be used to skip over unwanted points.

As in...
Going forward, I would like to backtrack to a previous topic in our conversation.

That's a good question Jim! Let's backtrack to that later though.
